Auto History by Mert

Scanned in some photos from my Dad's album today. And here's a little photo history from Mert.
Dad's first car was a 1940 Ford. It was his Dad's (C.W.). C.W. traded the 1940 Ford in on at a dealership in Williston for $200 on a 1954 Chevy. The salesman asked C.W. if Mert had a car and C.W. said, "No." The salesguy said, "Come back tomorrow and we'll set him up."
So, they went back the next day and Dad bought the 1940 Ford for $100. Ok, now my first question is how does a dealership make money when they lose money on a deal. but they gained a customer. Maybe that's it.

A few years later, Mert lined up the cars in front of their house in Wheelock, ND and took this photo.
From left to right is: Mert's 1947 Ford, Grandpa's 1954 Chevy, Grandpa's 1929 Model A (Dad still owns this) and Grandpa's 1938 Chevy. Also are pictured Grandpa and Skipper.

Makes you wonder how much these vehicles would be worth if they had been able to keep them in the family.
Peace!

I lived across the street. Mert's sister Doris was in my brother Pete's class. I was a year younger. I think my brother Jim was the same age as Mert.
